The Association of Science Special Education Teachers (ASSET) is an online non-for-profit membership organization dedicated to support those preparing for or teaching in the field of science special education. ASSET was founded to promote the profession of science special education teachers and to provide a national forum for their ideas by a teacher in Massachusetts. Sandrine Colson-Inam taught science and math to special needs students ( mainly emotionally disabled) for several years before reaching the conclusion that not many "standard" scientific professional association networks provided all the information needed to teach this type of students. Through attended and offered workshops, she reached the conclusion that SpEd (Special Education) Science Teachers needed a way to keep in touch and share ideas. Thus, the creation of ASSET as a national web-based community, where teachers can ask questions and share their own knowledge and expertise with others. This site is for SpEd Science teachers, built by and for SpEd Science teachers.
The Association of Science Special Education Teachers (ASSET) intends to be the source of useful authentic and professional information, techniques, and materials to aid in the teaching of Science for special education students. Our main goal is to provide our community of teachers with resources to share and complement as the organization grows. ASSET is committed to offer and promote the highest professional standards of excellence for teaching Science to sped students, by helping its members stay abreast of current issues in their field. ASSET works to enhance professional practice for science teachers of special education.
